This molecule can be prepared by the chlorination of 1,1,1,2,2,3,4,4,5,5,-octachlorobenzene with potassium chloride or sodium chloride in the presence of hydrochloric acid and sodium nitrite. The nitrite reacts with the methylphenyl group to form an amide bond that then undergoes deamination to form ammonia.
