Methyl 1-benzofuran-4-carboxylate is an organic compound that belongs to the alicyclic, endocyclic, and heterocyclic category. It has a vinyl group and a heterocycle with 4 rings. Methyl 1-benzofuran-4-carboxylate is synthesized by the equilibration of 2 equivalents of dienes with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate. This compound can also be obtained from the reaction of two equivalents of diels-alder type cycloadditions with five-membered heterocycles. The methyl group in this molecule can be replaced by other functional groups such as halogens, amines, or nitro groups.
