5-Hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-6,7-dimethoxy-4H-chromen-4-one is a sesquiterpene lactone compound that inhibits the activity of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines. It has been shown to have a beneficial effect on collagen metabolism in bowel disease. 5HMR is also an antioxidant and may have an antiobesity effect, as it increases energy expenditure and fat oxidation. This compound has shown to be effective in treating amyloid protein deposits in Alzheimer's disease. It also inhibits acetate extract production by inhibiting the enzyme aconitase, which catalyzes the conversion of citrate to isocitrate.
