• Descripción: 2,2',3,4,5,6-Hexachlorobiphenyl (PCB) is a lipophilic chlorinated biphenyl that has been shown to have a strong inhibitory effect on the activity of some enzymes. PCB can bind to fatty acid molecules and prevent them from being broken down by the body. In addition, PCB can interact with other chemicals in an additive or synergistic manner. These interactions are important because they may lead to increased toxicity at lower levels of exposure. This chemical is found in most human tissues and has been detected in human milk. PCBs have also been found to be potent inducers of liver cell enzyme activities in both rats and humans. They also cause changes in the distribution of lipids within cells and induce lipid peroxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids.
