1,5-Bis(diphenylphosphino)octane is a ligand that can be used to stabilize gold nanoparticles. It has been shown to form octahedral clusters of various sizes, with the size determined by the ratio of 1,5-bis(diphenylphosphino)octane to octane. The ligand can also be used in x-ray crystallography and crystallographic studies of long-chain molecules. 1,5-Bis(diphenylphosphino)octane has been shown to catalyze reactions involving diphosphines. It is also useful for electrospray ionization and ionization mass spectrometry.
