The ligand can also be used in x-ray crystallography and crystallographic studies of long-chain molecules. 1,5-Bis(diphenylphosphino)octane has been shown to catalyze reactions involving diphosphines. It is also useful for electrospray ionization and ionization mass spectrometry.
