Tri-tert-butylmethanol is a tetronic acid with a basic structure. It has a proton, hydrogen bond, and vibrational properties. The carbonyl group of the molecule makes it able to react with other molecules to form an ester or an amide. Tri-tert-butylmethanol is analyzed by X-ray absorption spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. This compound can be found as an additive in paint, plastics, and rubber products. Tri-tert-butylmethanol is also used in coordination chemistry for the synthesis of organic compounds that contain the trifluoromethyl group.
