Descripción:Encainide is a class I antiarrhythmic drug that belongs to the group of class Ia drugs and inhibits the fast sodium channel. It slows the heart rate and decreases conduction velocity in cardiac tissue. Encainide has been shown to be effective against tachycardia and ventricular arrhythmias. It has been shown to have a stable dose-response curve as well as no known drug interactions. Encainide has also been shown to improve cardiac function by inhibiting the activity of beta-receptors in cardiac muscle, which may lead to increased contractility, improved relaxation, and increased blood flow. Encainide is mainly used for the treatment of arrhythmias in patients with certain heart conditions, such as papillary muscle dysfunction or cardiomyopathy.
