N-Ethylheptylamine is an alkylsulfonyl compound, which is used as a pesticide. It is also used in the synthesis of other compounds that contain the sulfonyl group. N-Ethylheptylamine has been shown to be effective against crop plants, such as soybeans and corn, and can be used for the preparation of c1-c3 alkylalkylsulfonyl compounds. The reaction mixture can be prepared with hydrochloric acid and sodium hydrogen carbonate, followed by addition of cyanoalkylsulfonic acid or c1-c4 haloalkylsulfonic acid. Organic solvents such as acetone or chloroform are then added to dissolve the product. The solution can then be heated to evaporate solvents and produce a solid residue that can be purified by recrystallization from water or organic solvents.
