This compound has been screened in high-throughput screening tests and has been validated by binding to brain tissue. The pharmacological effects of 4-Benzyloxane-2,6-dione have not yet been elucidated but it is believed that the compound may be able to inhibit the production of beta amyloid peptides in the brain, which are thought to play a role in Alzheimer's disease.
