5,5'-Dimethoxylariciresinol is a chemical compound derived from Phellodendron amurense. It has been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory effects and may be useful as an alternative treatment for patients with hypertension. This compound inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNF-α in vitro. It also inhibits protein glycosylation, which can lead to diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, and cancer. 5,5'-Dimethoxylariciresinol is not active against most bacteria but does inhibit some bacterial growth by binding to their cell walls.
