5-Hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-1H-indole-2,3-dione is a growth factor that has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the production of indirubin and oxindole. It has been found to be effective against infectious diseases such as malaria, leishmaniasis and toxoplasmosis. This molecule also has an inhibitory effect on oxidases, which are enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of various substrates. 5-Hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-1H-indole-2,3-dione can be modified by enzymes to form a variety of derivatives with different biological activities. 5HIDD binds to cell membrane receptors and inhibits insulin like growth factor binding protein 3 (IGFBP3) and insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS1).
