Posiphen-d5 is a cholinergic drug that is used in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. It is an ester hydrochloride, which is metabolised to phenserine. The biological properties of Posiphen-d5 are dose-dependent and depend on the concentration of acetylcholinesterase in the central nervous system. Posiphen-d5 has been shown to have a positive effect on iron homeostasis and metabolism in humans at high doses. Posiphen-d5 also has a fatty acid ester for use as an excipient for parenteral preparations, such as intravenous injections.
