8-Fluorochroman is a 5-HT1A receptor antagonist that is used to treat depression. 8-Fluorochroman has been shown to have low oral bioavailability and to be rapidly metabolized, with the majority of its metabolites excreted in urine. The drug's solvates are hydrates and it is a 5-HT1A receptor antagonist. The 5-HT1A receptor is located on neurons in the brain and when activated, it inhibits the release of serotonin. 8-Fluorochroman blocks this action, thereby increasing serotonin levels in the brain. 8-Fluorochroman may be administered as an oral dosage form such as tablets or capsules at a dose of 10 mg once per day.
