It has been shown to increase ATP levels and cause decreased reactive oxygen species in cell culture. BI-6C9 also inhibits mitochondrial membrane potential, leading to necrotic cell death. This compound also induces autophagy, which is the process by which cells break down their own cellular components for energy production. BI-6C9 may be involved in the regulation of toll-like receptor 4 activation and cell proliferation inhibition.
