3-(5-Bromo-1-methyl-1H-indol-3-yl)-4-(benzofuran-3-yl)pyrrole-2,5-dione is a molecule with physiological function. It is a potent and selective inhibitor of protein kinase 3β (PK3β), which is an important regulator of synaptic transmission, neurodegeneration, and cancer progression. PK3β inhibition by 3-(5-Bromo-1-methyl-1H-indol-3-yl)-4-(benzofuran-3-yl)pyrrole 2,5 dione leads to increased serotonin release and decreased locomotor activity in animals. This compound also inhibits glycogen synthase kinase 3 (GSK3), thereby preventing the phosphorylation of tau protein and reducing the risk for Alzheimer's disease.
