7-Fluoroisoquinoline-1-carboxylic acid is an acetal that can be synthesized by the reaction of 5-fluoro-2-methylbenzoic acid with diimidazole and potassium. The synthesis proceeds in two steps: first, the carboxylic acid is converted to its methyl ester; second, this ester reacts with formamide to produce the desired product. The reaction requires large scale synthetic methods and a variety of reagents. It also requires n-dimethylformamide as a solvent and methylene chloride as a catalyst. 7-Fluoroisoquinoline-1-carboxylic acid is used in organic synthesis as a precursor for other compounds.
