Pyridazine is an organic compound that is used as a synthetic intermediate. Pyridazine is created by the reaction of pyridine with formaldehyde and hydrochloric acid. The process involves the use of a vessel, dilution, and irradiation. Pyridine reacts with formaldehyde to produce 3-methoxy-6-methylpyridazine. This reaction takes place in the presence of an oxidant such as hydrochloric acid or hydrogen peroxide. The product can then be purified by filtration and recrystallization from aqueous solutions of inorganic bases such as sodium hydroxide or ammonia.
