1-(Trimethylsilyl)-4-ethylbenzene (TMS-EB) is a supramolecular initiator that can be used for the radical polymerization of styrene. It is a reversible initiator, which means that it can be recycled and reused. TMS-EB can be used in atom transfer radical coupling reactions as a covalent coupling agent. TMS-EB has been shown to efficiently polymerize styrene and other monomers, such as acrylonitrile, butadiene, and chloroprene.
