(Cyanomethyl)(trimethyl)phosphonium iodide is a phosphonium salt used in the synthesis of amides. The asymmetric synthesis of the amide can be achieved by using this compound as a chiral reagent. This product has been shown to inhibit inflammatory diseases and may be useful in treating people with HIV infection. It also inhibits cholesterol acyltransferase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of fatty acids from coenzyme A to cholesterol. (Cyanomethyl)(trimethyl)phosphonium iodide has been found to have chemokine-like activity and may be useful for the treatment of nematode infections.
