De-o-methylacetovanillochromene is a natural product that is found in the plants Viguiera, Heterophylla decurrens, and Decurrens de-o-methylacetovanillochromene. This compound has been shown to have antibiotic properties against Gram-positive bacteria such as Streptococcus pyogenes and Staphylococcus aureus. De-O-methylacetovanillochromene inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the ribosomes of bacteria. The antibacterial activity of this compound can be explained by its inhibition of RNA synthesis and protein biosynthesis.
