Furaprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the group of fatty acid derivatives. It is used in pharmaceutical preparations for the treatment of pain and inflammation associated with various conditions, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, menstrual cramps, tendinitis, bursitis, and acute nonspecific tenosynovitis. Furaprofen inhibits prostaglandin synthesis by blocking the cyclooxygenase enzyme which converts arachidonic acid to prostaglandins. Furaprofen also has been shown to have antidiabetic and antiglycative properties. Furaprofen can be used as a diagnostic agent for diagnosing inflammatory diseases or degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.
