5-Methylfuro[3,2-c]quinolin-4(5H)-one is the first unsymmetrical diazo compound that has been found to undergo a regioselective and efficient dipolar cycloaddition with alkenes. This reaction was found to be catalyzed by copper(I) chloride in acetonitrile at room temperature. The product formed was an excellent example of a dipolar cycloaddition, with the carbon atoms at the 1 and 5 positions being cis. This product can then be oxidized to form two different regioisomers of furo[3,2-c]quinoline. 5-Methylfuro[3,2-c]quinolin-4(5H)-one is also an organic compound that is found in nature as a metabolite of some plants and animals.
