It undergoes photophysical and chemosensors reactions, and can be used as a moiety in the synthesis of other compounds. 2-(2-Methoxyethoxy)benzaldehyde can be used as an enhancer for thiazole derivatives, which are metal ion chelators. The enhancement of thiazole derivatives is due to the presence of electron-donating methoxy groups on the benzaldehyde ring. 2-(2-Methoxyethoxy)benzaldehyde also has electrochemical properties that make it useful for the detection of metal ions such as copper ions.
