Ricasetron is an ion-pair reconstituted drug that binds to the 5-HT4 receptor in the gastrointestinal tract. This prevents serotonin from binding to the receptor, preventing nausea and vomiting. Ricasetron has also been shown to decrease appetite, which may be due to its effects on neurokinin-1 (NK1). Ricasetron has been clinically proven for use in patients with cancer who are receiving chemotherapy.Ricasetron is a type of fatty acid that is used as a chemical structure in various medications. It was first synthesized in 1972 by scientists at Sandoz Pharmaceuticals AG and was patented in 1974.
