L-690,488 is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor that has been shown to be effective in treating depression. L-690,488 binds to the enzyme phosphoinositide (PI) and prevents it from being hydrolyzed by the enzyme phospholipase C. This leads to an accumulation of PI in cells, which stimulates the production of growth factors such as platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF). L-690,488 has also been shown to inhibit angiogenesis by inhibiting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) activity. L-690,488 is a potent inhibitor of viral replication and can be used in conjunction with other antiviral drugs for cancer treatment. The drug's cytotoxicity is low due to its lack of effect on pluripotent stem cells.
