3,4-Didehydrosapriparaquione is a novel anticancer drug that belongs to the taxane family. It has been shown to be cytotoxic to cancer cells and induce apoptotic cell death in human breast cancer cells (MCF-7) and other cancer cell lines. The pharmacophore of this compound is based on the benzene ring with two hydroxyl groups at C-3 and C-4. This structure also contains a heterocyclic ring with a 3,4-didehydro moiety at C-2, which is responsible for its cytotoxicity. 3,4-Didehydrosapriparaquione interacts with topoisomerase I (DNA gyrase), topoisomerase II (topo IV), and DNA polymerase, inhibiting their activity.
