Caylin-2 is a peptide that interacts with the ion channel TRPC1, which is a member of the transient receptor potential (TRP) family of ion channels. Caylin-2 is an activator of TRPC1 and may be useful in treating pain conditions such as neuropathic pain. It also has the potential to be used as a research tool for studying protein interactions, cell biology, and pharmacology.
Caylin-2 binds to TRPC1 and activates it by increasing calcium influx into cells. This leads to activation of downstream signaling pathways, including phospholipase C (PLC), which produces inositol triphosphate (IP3) and diacylglycerol (DAG). IP3 causes an increase in intracellular calcium levels by releasing calcium from intracellular stores, while DAG activates protein kinase C (PKC). PKC then activates the transcription factor CREB, which increases expression of genes that are
