Dehydroglyasperin D is a prenylflavonoid found in licorice. It has been shown to have chemopreventive effects against skin cancer and colorectal adenocarcinoma. Dehydroglyasperin D inhibits the growth of these cancers by inhibiting the activation of fatty acids and thus preventing the formation of reactive oxygen species, which can lead to DNA damage. The structure of dehydroglyasperin D is similar to that of a hydroxyl group, which is found in many natural compounds such as flavonoids, ursolic acid, and coumaric acid. These compounds are also present in food such as apples and grapes.
