2-(Chloromethyl)oxane is a chiral, pentyl amine that is used in liquid chromatography. It has been shown to have an excellent function at temperatures of between 0 and 100 degrees Celsius. This compound can be used as a coating on capillaries for chromatographic purposes, which allows the analytes to be separated by size and polarity. 2-(Chloromethyl)oxane can be used as a stationary phase for the separation of solutes with different functional groups. The solutes are detected by their relative retention time and volatility in comparison to other solutes.
2-(Chloromethyl)oxane is also used as an epoxide or alcohol detector in liquid chromatography due to its ability to react with these compounds.
