This compound is useful for the production of oriented polyesters, chlorinated rubber, and crosslinkable elastomers. 4-(Carbonochloridoyl)benzoic acid can be used in the production of polycarbonates and phthaloyl chloride-based polyurethanes. It also has a number of industrial applications, including as a chemical intermediate in the production of diisocyanates, as an ingredient in organic solvent cleaning solutions, and for use as a corrosion inhibitor in alkali metal plating baths or chlorinated hydrocarbons.
