It has been shown to inhibit the growth of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and other bacteria, including Streptococcus pyogenes (group A streptococci). This compound is also known as carvone, which is an active ingredient in the spice turmeric. 2-Methyl-5-(propan-2-yl)cyclohex-2-en-1-one can be used in pharmaceutical preparations and may have applications in cancer treatment.
