5-(2-Amino-1-hydroxyethyl)-2-hydroxybenzamide is a drug that is used to treat high blood pressure. It is a beta blocker, which means it blocks the effects of the neurotransmitters adrenaline and noradrenaline. This drug also has an effect on dopamine in the brain, which may be beneficial for patients with Parkinson's disease. 5-(2-Amino-1-hydroxyethyl)-2-hydroxybenzamide is metabolized by cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) in the liver to form N,N'-dihydroxybupropion, which is excreted in urine as hydroxybupropion.
