Descripción:S-Methyl-ke-298 is a new chiral, antirheumatic drug that is administered orally. It has been shown to be well tolerated in human clinical trials and to have pharmacokinetic properties that are stereoselectively different from the racemic drug. Pharmacokinetic studies in rats demonstrated that S-methyl-ke-298 had high plasma protein binding (95%) and was rapidly eliminated from plasma with a half-life of approximately 2 hours. The elimination of S-methyl-ke-298 was more rapid than the elimination of its enantiomer, R-(+)-methyl ke 298. This difference may be due to the fact that S-methyl ke 298 is more lipophilic than R-(+)-methyl ke 298 and therefore crosses the blood brain barrier more easily.S-[(R)-1-(3,4,5 -trimethoxyphenyl) ethyl] methyl ketone (SEMK) is an enantiomer
