The compound inhibits the synthesis of disulfide bonds in protein chains by inhibiting the enzyme glutathione reductase. Trifluoroacetic acid ethyl 2-(morpholin-3-ylformamido)acetate also inhibits energy metabolism, which may be a mechanism for its antitumor activity. This drug has also shown some anti-infectious disease properties as it has been demonstrated to reduce replication of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) and herpes simplex virus
