4-Methoxy-2,6-dimethylbenzaldehyde is a condensation product of 2,6-dimethylbenzaldehyde and methoxyacetophenone. It belongs to the group of aromatic ethers. This compound has been used as an antibiotic in the past. The chemical isomerization of 4-methoxy-2,6-dimethylbenzaldehyde occurs by pyrolysis at high temperature and leads to the formation of two isomers: 4-methoxybenzaldehyde and 4-methylphenol. The reaction products have been identified using nmr spectra and spectral data.
