Descripción:
N-Acetyl-S-benzyl-DL-cysteine is a test compound that can be used to measure the activity of the enzyme cystathionine β-synthase. This enzyme catalyzes the conversion of homocysteine to cystathionine, which is an intermediate in the synthesis of methionine. N-Acetyl-S-benzyl-DL-cysteine is also used as a chromatographic reagent in the determination of hippuric acid in urine and tissues. The measurement of hippuric acid levels can be used as a diagnostic tool for diseases such as gout, liver disease, and renal failure. N-Acetyl-S-benzyl-DL-cysteine has been shown to inhibit membrane transport by blocking ATPase activity.
