- 2-n-Propoxynaphthalene
2-Propoxynaphthalene is a liquid that has a chemical formula of C8H10O. It is used to synthesize other chemicals, such as n-propyl ethers and benzyl ethers. It can be synthesized by demethylating 2-methylnaphthalene with the use of heat or irradiation. The reaction time for this process is about 2 hours at 130°C in the presence of a catalyst. This compound has both ionic and covalent bonds with methyl groups, alkyl groups, and ionic bonds. The methyl group is an electron donor while the alkyl group is an electron acceptor. The ionic bond can be formed through a strong electrostatic force between ions of opposite charge.
2-Propoxynaphthalene has been shown to have micellar properties and can be used as an ionic liquid in organic synthesis reactions due to its ability to dissolve many organic molecules, such as pyr
