7-Methoxy-2-methyl-3-phenyl-4H-chromen-4-one is a fungal metabolite that can be found in plants such as soybeans, peanuts, and peas. It also exists in human urine. 7-Methoxyisoflavone can inhibit the growth of fungi by inducing DNA damage. This compound has been shown to exhibit estrogenic activity and may have anticarcinogenic properties. 7-Methoxyisoflavone can also act as an inhibitor of the enzyme cyclopium and demethylase, which are responsible for the conversion of methoxyisoflavones into their corresponding phenolic acids.
