The chemiluminescence method is a technique used to measure the rate constant of a reaction. The rate constant is the proportionality constant between the concentration of reactant and the time of reaction. Chemiluminescence is a type of light emission that occurs when an electron in a molecule reacts with a molecule in an excited state, transferring energy to it and allowing it to return to its ground state. This process can be stimulated by adding luciferin and oxidizing agents like hydrogen peroxide or potassium ferricyanide. Linoleic acid, cypridina luciferin, and human polymorphonuclear leukocytes are some examples of substances that produce chemiluminescence.
