Darinaparsin-d5 is an experimental drug that inhibits mitochondrial functions. It has been shown to be cytotoxic in human myeloma cells. This drug also prevents the development of kidney fibrosis and cancer tissues by inhibiting the expression of uPA, a protein associated with these diseases. Darinaparsin-d5 has been shown to inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and E. coli in mice, but it is not effective against other bacteria such as P. aeruginosa or S. pyogenes. The mechanism of action for this drug is unclear, but it may inhibit reactive oxygen species production or block bacterial cell wall synthesis.
