Descripción:Iganidipine is a drug that is used to treat high blood pressure. It lowers the blood pressure by blocking calcium channels in the cell membrane of vascular smooth muscle cells, preventing them from contracting and relaxing. Iganidipine binds to functional groups on the receptor site and prevents calcium ions from entering the cell. This increases the amount of time it takes for an action potential in a nerve cell to travel to the next neuron, thereby lowering blood pressure. The drug has been shown to be effective in reducing glomerular filtration rate in rats. Iganidipine also has neuroprotective effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit apoptosis and reduce oxidative stress.
