3-[(Dimethylamino)sulfonyl]thiophene-2-carboxylic acid (DAST) is a research tool that is used in the study of protein interactions, cell biology, pharmacology, and biochemistry. DAST is an inhibitor and activator of ion channels and can be used to study the function of proteins in cells. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of ligands or receptors. DAST is a ligand for the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR). This property has been used to identify new drugs that may be able to treat Alzheimer's disease and other diseases involving nAChRs.
