This receptor is involved in mediating the effects of the endogenous ligand arachidonic acid and therefore plays a role in inflammation and other responses. 1,6-Dimethyl-phenanthrene is synthesized by methylation of benzo[e]pyrene, which occurs naturally in the environment. This process involves chemical activation by energy input, such as diffraction or crystal x-ray diffraction. 1,6-Dimethyl-phenanthrene has been shown to have high potency against benthic invertebrates and is used as a standard for comparing potency in other compounds.
