3-Aminocatechol is a catecholamine that is found in the blood and other tissues. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of epinephrine, norepinephrine, and dopamine. 3-Aminocatechol has a rate constant of 10-9 M-1s-1. This means that it takes 10 seconds for 3-aminocatechol to react with one molecule of substrate per second at a concentration of 1M. The metabolic response to 3-aminocatechol is an increase in intracellular Na+, which leads to an increase in body protein. It also increases blood pressure by increasing heart rate, force of contraction, and peripheral resistance.
