The chemical structure consists of two terminal alkynes and two fatty acids, which are connected by an ester bond. 2-Octyn-1-ol has been shown to inhibit ionization techniques such as chemical ionization and ion mobility spectrometry. 2-Octyn-1-ol also has a number of physiological effects, including pheromone activity, regulation of lipid metabolism, and inhibition of the activity of certain enzymes such as fatty acid synthase.
