6-Methylquinolin-8-ol is a nitrate that can be used to treat tuberculosis. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of tuberculosis by binding to the active form of 8-hydroxyquinoline, which is an ionic complex. 6-Methylquinolin-8-ol also has covalent complexes with the DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes that maintain bacterial DNA. This drug has been shown to be effective against various strains of tuberculosis, but not against other bacteria such as Mycobacterium avium or Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
