Methyl 2-acetamido-3-nitrobenzoate is a potent cytotoxic agent that has been shown to selectively kill cancer cells in both animal and human studies. The drug is an analogue of benzothiazoles, which have anticancer activity. The mechanism of action is not known, but the drug has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on carcinoma cell lines and potent cytotoxicity against a variety of cancer cell lines. Methyl 2-acetamido-3-nitrobenzoate has also been shown to inhibit the growth of tumors in mice by inducing apoptosis.
