Hydroxytuberosone is a compound that belongs to the group of isoflavonoids. It has shown potent cytotoxicity against tumor cells in vitro and in vivo, with an IC50 value of 0.3 μM. The antitumor activity was also observed using a spectrometric method for measuring cell proliferation, which showed that hydroxytuberosone inhibited the growth of human cancer cell lines by blocking the initiation of DNA synthesis. Hydroxytuberosone may have potential as a chemotherapeutic agent for cancer treatment due to its ability to inhibit protein kinase C and protein kinase D activities, which are involved in tumor growth and angiogenesis.
