[(E)-[(4-Methoxyphenyl)methylidene]amino]urea is a hydrazine that is used in the synthesis of hydrazones, carbonyl compounds and semicarbazones. The reagent is a high yielding and efficient method for the conversion of phenylhydrazones to carbonyl compounds. In addition, the hydrazine has been shown to be a useful nitrogen source for peptide synthesis. It also efficiently converts carbonyl compounds to nitrogen-containing compounds under mild conditions with low yields of byproducts. [(E)-[(4-Methoxyphenyl)methylidene]amino]urea can be used as an aprotic solvent and is stable at high temperatures.
