Faropenem is a prodrug of the antibiotic daloxate. It is synthesized by condensing 6-(1-hydroxyethyl)-7-oxo-3-[(2R)-tetrahydrofuran-2-yl]-4-thiaazabicyclo[3.2.0]heptane-2-carboxylic acid 2-(propenyl ester) with (1S,5R,6S)-6-[(1R)-1-[[(1,1 -dimethylethyl)dimethylsilyl]oxy]ethyl]-7-oxo-3-[(2R)-tetrahydrofuran--2-yl]-4 -thiaazabicyclo[3.2.0]heptane -2-(propenyl ester).
